· BIOGRAPHY
Michelle Tsang is a PhD student at the MIND & AI Lab, supported by the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) and the HKU Presidential PhD Scholar Programme (HKU-PS).
She completed an MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience at University College London and a Bachelor of Social Sciences majoring in Psychology at the University of Hong Kong. Her pursuit of research stemmed from a lifelong curiosity about the human mind and a deep-seated aspiration to help others, which — through her immersion in cognitive science and neuroscience — evolved into a fervour for exploring how understanding cognition and emotion could translate into applications that support mental wellbeing.
Michelle's research centres on synthesising neuroimaging (fNIRS, fMRI), peripheral physiology, and computational modelling to delineate the neural, cognitive, and affective mechanisms and individualized biomarkers underlying the experience and regulation of negative affect (e.g., stress, anxiety). Through this integrative approach, she aims to identify actionable targets for novel neuromodulatory approaches (e.g., neurofeedback, BCI) and develop frameworks that are scalable to real-world settings. Ultimately, she hopes these neuroscientific insights can translate into more effective and accessible evidence-based tools to support individuals from all walks of life in achieving their full potential.
